One of the most common questions I receive from clients, whether they are a Jordanian family relocating to Dubai, a European expat renting their first villa, or a UAE national building in Abu Dhabi, is some version of: how much does interior design actually cost here? The honest answer is: it depends on far more than you would expect.
The Three Layers of Design Cost
Interior design in Dubai typically involves three distinct financial layers that clients often confuse: the design fee, the furniture and materials budget, and the fit-out or contractor cost. Understanding how they relate is critical before you start any project.
Design fees in Dubai range from AED 150 to 600 per square metre depending on the scope and the studio you are working with. That fee covers everything from concept development and mood boards to floor plans, material specifications, and contractor-ready documentation. It does not include what you spend on materials, furniture, or labour.
What Does a Typical Dubai Apartment Project Cost?
For a mid-range one-bedroom apartment, roughly 70 to 90 sqm, in an area like JVC or Business Bay, a realistic full project budget combining design fee, furniture, and contractor fit-out falls between AED 80,000 and AED 150,000. That is approximately $22,000 to $41,000 USD.
A luxury villa in Emirates Hills or Palm Jumeirah is a different world entirely. Fit-out costs alone for high-specification spaces can reach AED 1,500 to 3,000 per sqm, and bespoke joinery and imported Italian stone can double that figure.
Entry, Standard and Premium
At the entry level, a professional designer can help you with space planning, a curated moodboard, and a colour and material palette for a few thousand dirhams. A standard residential package typically costs between AED 25,000 and 75,000. Premium projects involving architecture and BIM coordination are priced per project. The first consultation with our studio is always free.
